Because of Beth's hospitality, I was able to successfully interview for a job, which allowed my husband to pursue his doctorate.

Because of Beth's encouragement, I wrote my first letter to a congressperson.

Because of Beth's ethusiasm about her cutting machine, I bought one which will enhance the quality of my greeting cards.

I'll miss her.

Every day brings more memories of the many times and ways Beth has been there for me over the years. I can't even recall our first meeting ( maybe at a river gathering?), but for as long as I have known her, she has always made feel welcome and accepted. She just did this naturally. I don't even know if she realized how much I needed that, especially many years ago as a young single mom-art student in Vermillion. Maybe she knew instinctively. That just seems to be Beth. She helped me apply for grad schools, jobs and art shows, patiently re-working my resume and portfolio, as I knew nothing about the new fangled computers of the early 1990s. I came and went from Vermillion over the years and Beth remained a constant and reassuring connection to my roots there. She was there for me when my father passed, she was always there for Peder. She was there for all of us. A true friend and a bright, generous spirit.

I never got to meet Beth face to face but for many years we shared the same facebook groups and PM'd advice back and forth. She helped me find help for my daughter who was diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder in grade 5 that has since graduated high school and on her way to college this fall. She helped me with my secret worries with my health and sometimes we just sat up late into the night sharing funny stories about our dogs and husbands. I am going to miss my "go to" online confidant. I hope that her facebook page stays up because I know that because of the person she was that her friends must be good people also and it would be nice to get to know some of the folks that also enjoyed having her in their lives at any level. I will miss Beth but I know one day I will meet her face to face, that will be a great day for me.

I have known Beth Simmons since we were in high school. We were also first roommates at The University of SD, and after awhile we both settled into living in Vermillion because of the wonderful people in the community. Family and marriage took me to other places closer to my husband's home, and Beth was part of our lives. Her politics were straight Democratic and her ideals were high and she had so much hope for this world and its outcome. I had only wished she lived long enough to see Trump leave office, but at least she saw Obama into and out of his Preaidential office for good balance. Beth had so much kindness for people of color and nationalities. She was the poster child for making good relations with people. She was the Ambassador of foreign students at USD, and she worked on many areas for her Masters. I was so thrilled for her when she finished. School came easy for her, and she did well. We will miss Beth, her great.love.for music and getting together with people, cooking many styles of ethnic foods were her specialty. She was a queen of her home and loved to entertain people there always. We will miss her smiling face and her eager longing for education and intelligent chatter. Oh Beth you left us too soon, and my heart aches. Prayers for you in the spirit world. Blessings.

Beth and I collaborated on several occasions to plan food for reunions, potlucks etc. One summer we decided to make falafel and all the trimmings. Beth offered to make all the falafel. I didnt realize what a involved process this was. Beth spent all day making and frying falafel while I made pesto and collected plates, forks etc. Beth spent all day of the reunion making falafel and showed up with all the goodies with a few minutes to spare. We were having so much fun at the party Beth decided to stay in her cooking clothes and have fun. It was a great event and I always admired her generosity and organizational skill.
